After gaining a lot of confectionery experience with Chocpix, through production, client visits and confectionery exhibitions in Europe and the USA we thought a foray into the world of charity sweets was worth a look.
Macmillan Cancer Support were our charity of choice and they were pleased to have us on board doing this for them. 10% of all sales were (and still are – £250,000 so far) given to the charity. For anyone who thinks 10p is not a large percentage, VAT took 20%, 5% were stolen, distribution agents took 20%, packaging production etc took a big chunk – then we had to buy the sweets themselves, the biggest expense.
We started out with one test agent and had the sweets bagged for us in Peterborough, then gradually expended the number of agents and I ran the project initially, got the boses, bags and website designed, sourced stock & set up dedicated production.
We parted company a couple of years ago, but there are now over 30 agents nationwide and the project is going from strength to strength.
